What Happened When I Spent a Year with The Bible Recap

It was the end of 2018, a time of reflection on the closing of one year and looking towards the beginning of the new. This is when I typically begin thinking about what Bible studies I’d like to dive into in the coming year. I had seen advertisements for the Bible Recap by D-Group on my Instagram and continued scrolling. I was already doing plenty of Bible study on my own and the format wasn’t overly appealing to me. I’m not a fan of podcasts though it seems that everyone I know can’t live without them. I also consider myself to be a slow studier, combing through small passages of scripture in multiple translations and with insights from various commentaries, not really one to rush through the entirety of the Bible in a year.

In December 2018, a friend reached out and invited me to join her and several other friends as they embarked on The Bible Recap’s inaugural attempt at covering every book of the Bible in a single year. The truth is, I didn’t want to do it. I thought of every excuse I could offer her before finally responding back that I would join them under the premise that as soon as I fell behind on the reading plan, I was throwing in the towel. That small yes was all she needed, and I was soon added to a group chat of excited women ready to conquer this together.
